Barrett MRAD MK22 Awarded US Army Precision Sniper Rifle Contract

Barrett just announced some big news, continuing its success supplying the U.S. military. The U.S. Army awarded Barrett a five-year $49.9 million contract for its Precision Sniper Rifle Program. Barrett will provide the MRAD MK22 MOD 0 rifle. It comes with a Leupold Mark 5 HD scope — first selected in March 2020 — and accessory kit. The MK22 replaces several rifles currently fielded by the Army.

The MK22 brings precision and modularity. If provides greater flexibility within the popular MRAD rifle platform, according to Barrett. The multi-caliber bolt-action sniper rifle converts between 7.62×51, .300 Norma Man., and .338 Norma Mag calibers.

The Army heaped high praise on the MRAD during its budget request. It said the platform “increases stand-off distances, ensuring overmatch against enemy counter sniper engagements and increases sniper capability,” according to Barrett.

“We are honored to have been awarded the Army’s Precision Sniper Rifle Program in addition to SOCOM’s Advanced Sniper Rifle contract. The MK22 is an extremely capable rifle system that meets the demanding requirements of our military branches,” said Joel Miller, Barrett’s director of global military sales.

In 2019, Barrett made history with the first adoption of the MRAD by the U.S. military.
