According to the Associated Press, the scenario presented at Exercise Urgent Response — which started on Tuesday and ends on Thursday — involves an active shooter at a tenant command promotion ceremony. During the exercise, Marines will also gain experience in team hostage negotiation in coordination with first responders, law enforcement, and officials at Camp Lejeune.
As the AP reports, the Marines will work with Naval Criminal Investigative Services’ Carolinas Field Office, Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, and various tenant commands, including the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force.
Camp Lejeune conducts a similar exercise annually, the AP said.
