According to state television broadcaster CCTV, a three-ship Navy squadron that included China’s largest amphibious landing ship, the Changbaishan, as well as two destroyers, arrived at the Indian Ocean on Jan. 29 and conducted exercises centered around counter-piracy, search and rescue, and damage control.
To return home, the Chinese naval fleet will travel through the South China Sea, where it is embroiled in a separate territorial dispute with the Philippines with regional islands. They are also currently in a clash with Japan over islands in the East China Sea.
