The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa searched a 226-foot Panamanian-flagged freighter for mulitiple days before they found a hidden compartment holding the drugs.
Commander Clinton S. Carlson, the commanding officer of the Cutter Tampa, said to NBC Miami,
This is a huge win for the crew. A boarding like this takes the concerted effort of all hands in one form or another and the Tampa crew did magnificent and ultimately kept these drugs from crossing our borders.
The freighter and its crew were turned over to the Department of Justice when the Cutter Tampa returned to shore.
