Two Florida law enforcement agencies are conducting community outreach by accepting applications for free citizens academies to be held in early 2014.
The first course, hosted by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, will be held on Wednesdays, Jan. 8 – April 2, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at its headquarters, 2601 W. Broward Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. The second course, hosted by the Coral Springs Police Department, will be held on Wednesdays, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. between March 12 and June 11 at the city’s public safety building, 2801 Coral Springs Drive.
Attendees will have the opportunity to go on patrol with a deputy for four hours and tour the 911 call center, the crime lab and a jail. Lectures about criminal investigations, the aviation unit, gang unit, DUI unit, bomb squad, internal affairs and forensics will also be offered.
