“I am proud to nominate students from my district who display the core values of honor and courage in their commitment to serve our country,” McCarthy said in a statement. “I congratulate each of them in their pursuit of becoming future leaders in our Armed Services.”
Each year, members of Congress choose one principle nominee and an alternate for each of the country’s military academies, which includes the United States Military Academy in West Point, the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, and the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
Only the most successful nominees will be picked by service academies for admission in the fall. A majority of service academy cadets graduated in the top 25 percent of their high school class.
