A severely injured Army Ranger, 24-year-old Cpl. Joshua Hargis, took the time and extraordinary effort to salute his commanding officer—despite the tubes and bandages in place to help him heal after a night combat operation in the Zhari district of Kandahar province, Afghanistan, on October 6.
Hargis is one of 14 troops injured during the mission, when a suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosive near the assault force. As the unit reacted to the initial blast, they were struck by a series of subsequent explosions that killed four soldiers, including two Army Rangers.
