ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, eventually leading to death.
The challenge requires people to dump a cold bucket of ice water over their heads and then nominate other people to do the same. If the challenge is not accepted and completed within 24 hours, the person must donate money to the ALS Association.
As of Aug. 18, more than $15 million has been donated to the ALS Association thanks to the challenge.
Law enforcement agencies have gotten in on the challenge, completing it in massive numbers while issuing challenges to other agencies.
The video below shows Massachusetts State Police Colonel Timothy P. Alben and his command staff completing the Ice Bucket Challenge, while also issuing a challenge to the Maine State Police, New Hampshire State Police, Vermont State Police, Rhode Island State Police, Connecticut State Police and Louisiana State Police.
