Seaside City Council will reportedly earmark $50,000 to purchase the handguns, as well as ammunition and equipment. The recommendation was made by Seaside Police Chief Vicki Myers, who said that the .45 ACP has better stopping power and accuracy than the .40 cal.
“The majority of the officers shot better with the .45-caliber round and documented favorable subjective impressions,” she said.
In addition, police officers can now buy special “retro style” badges to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Seaside’s incorporation. The badges will be retired at the end of this year.
