“We may use military-style weapons but that is because of the durability or design of the weapon,” Longview police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said. “We would certainly never portray ourselves as the military.”
In order to combat the modern criminal, Hallsville Police Chief Paul Montoya said it was necessary to use military equipment and training.
“Police are very reactive. There are very few departments that are proactive,” he said. “I personally would not compare myself to a soldier in a war zone, but there is a level of difficulty in what we do,” Montoya added.
