The transport ship Somerset will be docked at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia when it gets its commission on March 1, 2014. It arrives on Feb. 21 and will be open for tours during the ten days it is there.
“I think it’s only fitting the Somerset has the opportunity to commission in Philadelphia,” says Capt. Thomas Dearborn (below), who commands the USS Somerset.
Over 200 family members of the victims of Flight 93 will join military and elected officials at the commissioning ceremony.
“Those 40 heroes that perished on that fateful day,” says Capt. Thomas, “had it not been for their brave actions, many more lives would have been lost.”
