The U.S. Air Force’s RQ-4 Block 40 Global Hawk, carrying a synthetic-aperture radar and ground-moving target indicators, recently saw action for the first time—although its target remains classified.
“Any time we send a jet out of Grand Forks and 24 hours later it arrives right on center line… in the Middle East, that amazes me,” the 69th Reconnaissance Group’s Col Lawrence Spinetta said last week during a media briefing at the base.
The RQ-4 Block 40 Global Hawk has a wingspan of 131 feet, length of 47.6 feet and a gross takeoff weight of 32,250 pounds.
