Firearms manufacturer Smith & Wesson has made a large and generous donation to Springfield Museums in Springfield, Mass., where the company was founded and remains headquartered to this day.
According to WGGB, the company has gifted a collection of 1,600 firearms covering every phase of the company’s history, in addition to over 400,000 archival documents dating back to Smith & Wesson’s founding in Springfield in 1852, as well as a $300,000 gift to be paid over a period of ten years.
“It’s really important to us to be able to preserve each of the special industries that Springfield has been a host to for so long…so Smith and Wesson…this has been a wonderful gift that will enable us to really enhance our programming, do more exhibits, and really tell the story of gun making in the Valley and the importance of Smith and Wesson as a corporate community member,” said Holly Smith-Bove, President of Springfield Museums.
