This year, three U.S. Navy Ships — including Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51), Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67) from Norfolk, Va., and Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64) from Mayport, Fla. — and two U.S. Coast Guard cutters — including cutter Katherine Walker (WLM 552) from Bayonne, N.J. and cutter Campbell (WMEC 909) from Portsmouth, N.H. — will participate in the festivities.
As Military.com points out, numerous exhibits and military demonstrations will take place, as well as visitation of participating ships and military band concerts. It is an opportunity for citizens all around the tri-state area to interact with Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen and bare witness to maritime capabilities. Fleet Week has been held nearly every year since 2007.
