U.S. Army Air Forces Capt. Franklin B. Tostevin, 22, of Westfield, New Jersey, was shot down on March 20, 1945 while flying a reconnaissance mission over Cologne, Germany. He was piloting an F6-P, which was a converted P-51 Mustang, when he was shot down. It was his 159th mission.
Tostevin was an experienced pilot, having flown missions photographing German defenses in Normany, France, before D-Day in June 1944.
His remains were recovered from a crash site by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command in 2008 and identified using DNA.
