A U.S. World War II pilot who was shot down over Germany will be buried with full military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver this Friday, the Department of Defense announced.
U.S. Army Air Forces Capt. Franklin B. Tostevin, 22, of Westfield, New Jersey, was shot down on March 20, 1945 while flying a reconnaissance mission over Cologne, Germany. He was piloting an F6-P, which was a converted P-51 Mustang, when he was shot down. It was his 159th mission.
Tostevin was an experienced pilot, having flown missions photographing German defenses in Normany, France, before D-Day in June 1944.
His remains were recovered from a crash site by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command in 2008 and identified using DNA.
