A proposed gun bill that would enable Wisconsin residents to purchase rifles and shotguns from any dealer in the country will be voted on by a legislative committee next week.
Interstate firearm sales were banned under the U.S. Control Act of 1968, but dealers were still permitted to sell long guns to buyers in the contiguous United States. As part of a federal law passed almost two decades later, states were given the ability to permit people to purchase long guns from dealers in any state.
The gun bill would lift the contiguous state ban on people living in Wisconsin.
The Committee on Natural Resources will vote on the gun bill next Wednesday. If passed, it will be put to a vote in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
