Staff Sgt. Trey Murphy serves with the Air National Guard, and just got back from a tour of duty. However, before the game, his mother had no idea.
“She absolutely means the world to me, so being away from friends and family, especially my mom, is very tough,” Murphy said. “She has no idea that I’m here now, talking to you.”
So, Murphy talked with the Drive, who agreed to be part of the homecoming. They let Murphy suit up as a player, and in the bottom of the third inning, Murphy’s mother, Sarah, took the field. She was the featured speaker during USO night at Fluor Field.
