BBN Technologies introduced their amazing Acoustic Shooter Detection System at this year’s AUSA Show. Pictured on top of the HMMVV, the eight-prong hi-tech device can detect snipers and rogue shooters even in noisy environments. This device is already working in Iraq and Afghanistan. The device detects the direction from where enemy fire is coming from and displays it on a screen, allowing the good guys to direct fire in a specific location. It operates in vehicles moving at 60 mph in all terrains and under all weather conditions. Not only does the LED screen display the direction of the shooter relative to the position of the vehicle, it gives an auditory response- “Shot, one o’clock”- and a military 10-digit grid coordinate is displayed in standby mode. There are no calibration requirements- just a simple on/off switch.
