Change the AR’s upper receivers, and you can switch from a short-barreled 5.56mm carbine for CQB to an intermediate-range 7.63mm precision rifle. That is Colt’s new LE901 rifle. With an upper receiver hogged out of a one-piece aluminum forging, you’ve got something incredibly strong and rigid in your hands. As author Lain Prescott reports, “You could literally pound nails with this upper.” During range testing the LE901 proved its potential as a very capable designated marksman rifle. Then Prescott took it to task in a series of barricade and off-hand drills at ranges from 7 to 100 yards. Find out more about the weapon’s split times and real-world capability in the August 2013 issue of Special Weapons for Military & Police, available on newsstands and digitally on June 25, 2013.
