According to one source, there are some 18,769 law enforcement agencies in the United States. Of those agencies, 90 percent serve populations under 25,000. That means there are lots of small town and rural LEOs out there. In many cases, small population and small size add up to minimal salaries and all too often officers have to pay for things like firearms, leather and related equipment out-of-pocket. Given my small-town LE roots, I’m always on the lookout for a good deal. Recently, I found just such a deal, and it comes from one of the emerging leaders in AR platforms, Daniel Defense.
Coming on the scene a little more than a decade ago, Daniel Defense founder Marty Daniel started out producing AR parts. As his products caught on, it became apparent he’d need more space and so he designed and built a 38,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. If that weren’t enough, the current operation will add another 90,000-square-foot facility this year to provide even better service. Daniel Defense owns and operates its own barrel-production cell so that all of their carbines and rifles are equipped with cold-hammer-forged barrels made in the U.S.A. The company is a major player in the design and manufacture of rail systems, handguards and M4 rifles. As such, they are the chosen provider of rails to the U.S. military’s elite special operations units and the sole provider of rails to the UK Ministry of Defense.
I recently spoke with the company about their new LE packages. The Patrol Rifle Package (PRP) includes a DDM4 V1 carbine, a Daniel Defense vertical grip, rear Magpul MBUS backup adjustable sight, Magpul MOE adjustable stock, six Magpul PMAGs (30-round capacity), a Bushnell Tactical TRS-25 mini red dot sight with mount, and a black 600D polyester Rifle Assault Bag from Uncle Mike’s. For other needs, Daniel Defense also offers three other LE-only packages that differ mainly in how the DDM4 is set up: the Light Weight Package, Special Services Package and the Designated Marksman Package.
