I’ve always been a strong proponent of going armed all of the time, and have always believed that all it requires is a commitment to carry, a bit of experimentation and some adjustment to your wardrobe. Like any arena of life, having the right gear makes the task easier. Special clothing isn’t necessary, but today a growing number of clothiers are actually designing attire explicitly for concealed carry and a little help certainly doesn’t hurt.
One of those companies is EOTAC. EOTAC manufactures both Tactical and Discreet lines of clothing for the carry of firearms and their logical accessories. The Discreet line is for carrying those items concealed. It runs the gamut from tactical pants, shorts and shirts, Discreet dress pants, Operator grade shirts in long and short sleeves, and sweatshirts. EOTAC continually gathers input from end users, military and law enforcement personal, private security contractors and firearms instructors to develop clothing that is fully functional while being comfortable and durable at the same time. EOTAC’s staff know and understand the dynamics of carrying concealed, because they’ve all been there. EOTAC’s promise to the consumer is that their clothing is designed and tested by operators for operators.
Tactical-like trousers might get some street-smart individuals’ radars up, but cargo pants have become popular these days. Available in black, khaki, navy, and OD green, these trousers are made from 7-ounce all-cotton rip-stop, are fade resistant, pre-shrunk and washed with DuPont Teflon Fabric Protector, which provides a breathable, durable barrier that repels both water and oil based spills.
Features are plentiful with elastic side panels in the waist, reinforced stress areas, including the 1-inch wide belt loops and knee area (with removable knee pads) and heavy rip-stop pockets including large cargo pockets with internal magazine loops and elastic drawstring with cord lock for additional security. They also boast wallet pockets with hook and loop closures, oversized back pockets, and bottom pockets that will hold a 30-round AR magazine. Front pockets are widely scalloped for easy access. All critical seams are double-needle stitched and bar-tacked at stress points. The trousers are machine washable.
The Operator Grade Lightweight Shorts are available in the same colors and have all of the same features and construction as the Operator Grade Pants, save for the omission of lower pockets and kneepads.
The Tropical short-sleeve and 4-Pocket short-sleeve are made from cotton, pre-shrunk for proper fitting and is fade-resistant with an anti-wrinkle finish. These shirts are made in two styles, the “Camp Shirt” or Guayabera, a casual bowling style. They drape freely to prevent printing with a false button at the bottom front and vents on the side, hiding hook and loop. These tear-away closures ensure the shirt won’t impede quick access to a concealed pistol.
The Operator Grade Half-Zip Sweatshirt is also casual and provides print-free concealment and easy access as an outer garment. The Half-Zip is 80 percent cotton and 20 percent polyester, features a stand-up collar, and the same easy-access hidden hook and loop closures on the side vents. It’s pre-shrunk for proper fit and is quite warm and comfortable when a coat isn’t warranted.
Operator Grade Discreet Pants also share the same color selection and most of the same features and construction of the Tactical pants, though they lack the numerous cargo-style pockets and are constructed of 8.5-ounce Bomb-Proof all-cotton canvas with a dress pant appearance, in keeping with the Discreet style of dress. They maintain the easy access front and back pockets, and even keep the elastic side panels.
Wearing EOTAC clothing while carrying a concealed gun with all of the above-mentioned gear for a few months was comfortable, easy to move in and they proved to be durable. All the pockets are in the right places and the hook and loop closures secure items inside. With the Discreet shirts, the cotton construction made them exceptionally comfortable and breathable, so that they were cool in the heat. They prevented printing and the vents on the front and side stayed closed until I ripped them open.
EOTAC strives to provide Discreet clothing that is comfortable, durable and functional in the job of helping to conceal weapons and gear. Their tactical line is aimed at providing the working professional with functional clothing to assist in carrying an array of gear that those in the law enforcement profession are required to carry. EOTAC’s stated mission was accomplished well.
Whether the gear reviewed here works for you or you prefer alternatives, take the time and effort to arm yourself off-duty. You strap on all of that equipment on duty to protect strangers. It only makes sense that you’d do so for yourself and for the safety of your family. Find out more about EOTAC’s lines at eotac.com or call them at 803-744-9930.
