Short-barreled rifles (SBRs) are incredibly popular among police agencies, various military units and even those looking for compact home-defense weapons.

Several AR-platform options are available on the market in 5.56mm NATO and the 300 Blackout. But what about the 6.8 SPC? It’s easy to forget that this chambering was one of the first intermediate rifle cartridges configured to work in short barrels.

And when you go with a really short barrel, a gas piston operating system is preferred for unshakeable reliability. In this arena, LWRC International’s Six8 is one of the best.

Instead of trying to get magazines designed for the 5.56mm to operate properly in a 6.8 SPC weapon, LWRCI started from scratch. It partnered with Magpul to create a PMAG designed from the ground up to work with the larger case while still offering 30 rounds on tap.

LWRCI then built the Six8 upper and lower receiver set around this PMAG, resulting in one of the most reliable 6.8 SPC rifles built to date. Coupled with the company’s proven short-stroke piston system, it continues to function with barrels as short as 8.5 inches.

The Six8 UCIW (Ultra-Compact Individual Weapon) combines the power of the 6.8 SPC with LWRCI’s compact stock, buffer tube and buffer system.

Perfectly designed for those using plate carriers or other entry vests, the Six8 UCIW maintains reliability while providing an incredibly short overall package.
