A U.S. Army soldier killed 45 years ago was laid to rest Monday in Grundy County.
Specialist Marvin Phillips died when his helicopter crashed into the South China Sea in September 1966. He was 20 years old.
An exhaustive ocean search was made surrounding the crash area, but no trace of Phillips was ever found until April of last year when a fisherman discovered bones.
The bones were sent to Hawaii where they were positively identified as Phillips’.
Phillips’ brother James told Nashville’s News 2, “It’s a happy day for us. We know that he’s come home to stay.”
