There are few things more American than the 1911 pistol platform. It just screams exceptionalism. Likewise, when it comes to American ingenuity and taking things to the next level, Kimber tends to come to mind. As an example, comes two new 1911 pistols from Kimber, as a part of its popular RAPIDE line.

The Kimber RAPIDE 1911 Dawn and Scorpius

Following the aesthetic styling of the RAPIDE family, the Dawn and Scorpius feature the same stainless-steel slides. Similarly, both slides contain forward and rear stepped cocking serrations and forward slide lightening cuts. However, the Dawn features the Silver KimPro II slide finish, with brush polished flats. Conversely, the Scorpius features the Black KimPro II slide finish, with brush polished flats.

Chambered in 9mm, both models include 5-inch stainless-steel, match-grade barrels with a 1:16 left-hand twist. The barrel on the Dawn has a Gold TiN finish, while the Scorpius has a Black DLC finish. Correspondingly, a 12-pound recoil spring brings the slide back to battery after each shot. Additionally, sitting atop the slide are Tru-Glo TFX Pro Day/Night sights, with the company’s signature orange front ring.

The stainless-steel frames include Kimber’s Stiplex textured front strap and G-10 grips. As a result, both models provide a positive purchase with each draw. The finish on both frames matches that of the finish on the corresponding model’s slide, rounding out the aesthetics. Both models measure 8.7-inches long, 5.25-inches tall and 1.28-inches wide. Likewise, both tip the scale at 40 ounces, unloaded.
