One of the most dangerous and physically demanding jobs in the law enforcement profession is serving as a Border Patrol agent along the Mexican Border. While all Border Patrol agents are at risk when they operate in border areas, there is one contingent of Border Patrol agents who volunteer to serve in forward operating bases (FOBs) that are located in closer proximity to the international boundary line.
It is well known that Arizona is a vast terrain that is actively used by Mexican drug smugglers. These shipments cross into the U.S. at various locations along the border by countless means and are delivered to a network of stash houses, where these loads or shipments are quickly transported to other destinations. The Mexico-Arizona border is also heavily used for human-trafficking operations.
The agency known as U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) uses a technologically advanced network of ports of entry, vehicle and mounted Border Patrol units, K9 units, a system of highway checkpoints, manned and unmanned aviation assets, an armada of marine interdiction vessels, a vehicle nd pedestrian fencing system, an intelligence gathering component, a network of sensors, integrated camera systems and a network of FOBs and tactical teams to perform all aspects of the border security mission…
