Interest in long-range shooting continues to grow. From hunters to competition shooters, the desire to get first-shot hits from longer ranges keeps driving new rifle development. And now Mossberg answers that call with the new Patriot LR Hunter.

Mossberg Patriot LR Hunter Details

“With the increased interest in long-range shooting, both target and hunting, we decided to develop a platform that would really be designed for that,” said Linda Powell, Mossberg.

We sent rounds downrange with the new rifle at the recent Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous. At first glance, Mossberg’s new Monte Carlo stock stands out. Polymer coated in an attractive Spider Gray finish, it includes features long-range shooters demand. A micro-texture finish provides a sure grip. Meanwhile, a benchrest-style forend enables precision holds. Dual swivel studs and a tapered shape adds to the appeal. But the best feature arguably comes from within–a pillar bedding system to help promote greater accuracy.

“The beauty of this stock, imbedded into it, is aluminum bedding pillars, so that enhances accuracy,” Powell said.

A fluted, threaded barrel comes muzzlebrake and suppressor ready. A protective thread cap and 11-degree match crown add greater versatility. A drop-box magazine, spiral fluted bolt and user-adjustable LBA trigger round out the rifle’s features.

The Mossberg Patriot LR Hunter comes in .308 Win, .300 Win Mag, 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 PRC. The rifle retails for $743. For more information, visit mossberg.com.
