Among the four new HK tactical models chambered in .22 LR is the 416 D145RS rifle. Loaded with authentic features taken from the selective-fire 5.56x45mm NATO military models, the 416 is in its appearance, feel and operation a mirror copy of the HK. Like its military forerunner, the 416’s pistol grip and buttstock include storage compartments for small tools or batteries. Its sights are on-rail, and the rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation. Its sling swivel is incorporated into the stock. Its safety selector rotates 90 degrees from “On Safe” to “Fire,” and like the other three .22 models it utilizes a traditional blowback-operating system. The 416 D145RS, retailing for an affordable $559, is a majorly cool piece of military-cum-civilian hardware; but it isn’t the only .22-caliber 416 currently in production. Just as cool, if not cooler, is HK’s 416 Pistol LR—a 416 carbine in miniature, though equally powerful.
