The US Army announced today that Beretta U.S.A. has been awarded a purchase order for 15,778 new Beretta 92FS pistols and cleaning kits. Delivery of the pistols will begin in 60 days and will proceed at a rate of 2,000 pistols per month.

“This order reminds us that Beretta 9mm pistols remain a central part of the American arsenal,” commented Jeff Reh, Vice-General Manager for Beretta U.S.A. “These particular pistols are being supplied as part of the U.S. Army Foreign Military Sales program in aid to Afghan troops and to assist other U.S. allies around the world.”

The Beretta 92FS 9mm pistol and its U.S. military equivalent, designated the M9, have been manufactured in the U.S. since 1987 by an American work force that now stands at around 300 employees. To date, over 600,000 Beretta 9mm pistols have been delivered to the U.S. military by the Beretta U.S.A. facility in Accokeek, Maryland.

“We are very proud to continue supplying the 92FS and M9 pistols to the U.S. Armed Forces” said Gabriele de Plano, Beretta U.S.A.’s Vice President of Military Marketing & Sales, “and we are looking forward to future opportunities to support our troops in the field with either our improved Model 92A1 line or the new Px4 Storm family of pistols”.

In addition to Beretta, Benelli, Sako and Steiner, are part of Beretta Defense Technologies (BDT). This alliance of leading companies is unified to provide advanced products, services, in-house R&D and manufacturing in support of military personnel around the world.
