Filipino mariners who had been stranded in the aftermath of an explosion, which left the tanker they were serving on disabled, were rescued by the United States Navy in the Persian Gulf.

Twenty four Filipino mariners, crew of the tanker Stolt Valor, were rescued by the destroyer John Paul Jones on Thursday. The crew had been stranded in a tanker that carried 13,000 metric tons of a substance described as “volatile” and “flammable” on the website of the Environmental Protection Agency.
