Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) technology has finally come to small arms applications with FLIR’s new HISS long-range thermal in-line weapon sight. Seen here on a sniper rifle made by Accuracy International, the HISS provides tactical marksmen with target acquisition in total darkness, through smoke, fog and most obscurants. Adapting the HISS to a sniper rifle allows the operator to engage targets at ranges up to 1,500 meters. Weighing less than 4 lbs., this portable FLIR optic operates off of six CR-123A batteries that provide a run time of more than 7 hours. It has been field tested on weapons up to and including those chambered for the powerful .50 BMG. It mounts easily in front of a day scope with no re-alignment or re-zeroing of the weapon.
