1 and 2. Install the barrel without the gas tube, and screw the barrel nut in completely, making sure to align the holes so that the gas tube can be installed. 3. Screw in the handguard and tighten it, making sure that the front sight accessory holes are properly aligned with the top of the receiver and rear sight. 4 and 5. Install the pistol grip, making sure to secure the safety detent and detent spring in the hole on the top of the grip. This is easiest to do with the lower receiver upside down. Tighten the grip screw to complete the installation. 6 and 7. Install the buffer spring and retainer as well as the takedown pin detent and spring at the rear of the receiver. 8. Screw in the buttstock assembly until it catches the buffer retainer. Ensuring that the takedown spring is secured by the receiver endplate, tighten down the castle nut.
Hogue’s new Tactical Rifle Kit comes with a free-floating handguard, a finger-grooved pistol grip and a collapsible stock, all with OverMolding for comfort.
Replacing the stock set on your AR makes for an easy upgrade that also personalizes your firearm and adds a custom touch with additional features. You can certainly buy the parts you want piecemeal from separate manufacturers or from one manufacturer to maintain a unified appearance. Thanks to Hogue, however, you can get a complete furniture kit in one convenient package that also saves you money.

Hogue already has an excellent reputation for making a complete line of handgun grips and rifle stocks and accessories. Most of these feature the company’s trademark ergonomic soft rubber OverMolding and Cobblestone texturing. The Hogue Tactical Rifle Kit is truly a complete package and an outstanding upgrade loaded with plenty of extras.
The collapsible buttstock includes the entire assembly, which is ideal for anyone looking to build their own AR. You get a mil-spec buffer tube, buffer and buffer spring as well as a castle nut and receiver endplate. The six-position-collapsible stock itself features rubber OverMolding on the cheekrest and buttplate and three ambidextrous QD sling attachment points as well as three sling webbing loops.
The round, aluminum handguard is rifle length but will easily fit on a carbine. It allows the barrel to remain free-floating, which helps improve accuracy. About half the length features the rubber OverMolding, and there are eight attachment points at the front for the included Picatinny rails. The aluminum rail is the right height for mounting a front sight if desired and you also get an offset rail and barricade stop. Installation is very easy with the included wrench, but you will need a low-profile gas block.
Lastly, the Hogue Tactical Rifle Kit includes a fully rubber OverMolded pistol grip with an ergonomic finger-grooved design and a high beavertail. The palm swells feature Hogue’s distinct Cobblestone texture pattern, which adds extra traction.
