As long as I’ve been doing this column, I don’t recall ever finding something of perfectly good use in the non-law enforcement/non-military venue—a knife that I thought was well suited for law enforcement and military.
I can’t say that anymore. It seems that James McGowan, a Canadian firefighter, has come up with an edged implement that stands out as being ideal for any responder and/or rescuer. That is, the MAK-1/Extrik-8-R combination. Built specifically for firefighters by Columbia River Knife & Tool, the Multiple Access Knife (or MAK-1) is one of the better working edges to come along.
