Bushnell’s Elite Tactical line of scopes continues to lead the industry in affordable and practical optics for duty, defense and competition. Rugged, reliable and built to last, Bushnell uses some of the best glass and coatings available.

RELATED STORY

Bushnell AR Optics Series Gets New Scopes, Red Dots

Having used them since their introduction, the Elite Tactical scopes continue to impress with improvements in ergonomics, construction and technology. The newest member of the line, the Bushnell SMRS II Pro 1-6.5x 24mm, is no exception.

Bushnell SMRS II Features

Perfect for intermediate range carbines, the SMRS II series is suited for patrol rifles, competition rigs and self-defense carbines. It is rugged, yet light, and offers optimum magnification without increasing length — a perfect fit on AR-15 rifles.

Offered in either a standard or the aforementioned Pro configuration, Bushnell’s SMRS II series uses the latest CQ-BDC reticle mounted in the second focal plane. At its lowest power, the lighted reticle can be turned on providing a fast and accurate circle/dot for CQB operations.

The SMRS II covers longer distances using the BDC (Bullet Drop Compensating) reticle.

Both versions utilize Bushnell’s EXO Barrier Protection, a coating that repels water, oil, fog and debris. Fully multicoated lenses are anti-reflective providing superior light gathering characteristics.

The standard model uses a flip-up ThrowHammer throw lever, while the Pro features a fixed ThrowHammer for immediate access. The Pro model also uses capped turrets for protection in the harshest conditions, standard models allow easy access when needed.

Bushnell’s standard SMRS II comes in anodized black, while the SMRS II Pro is flat dark earth and uses ED glass for the best possible clarity.

Both are light. The Pro weighs in at only 18 ounces, but is strong enough to take anything you can throw at it.

Both use 30mm tubes offering 100 MOA of elevation adjustment. The Pro model measures in at 10.3 inches, slightly shorter than the standard SMRS II.

Bushnell SMRS II Pro Testing

Variable power optics are quickly becoming the norm on most any working carbine. They offer ease of use from across the room to the practical limits of the classroom.

Scopes using 1-6 power have become the most common. Dialed down, you can use them almost like an RDS; dialed up, you get plenty of magnification to reach 600 yards if needed, with optimal clarity and observation at 300 yards.

I tested the Bushnell SMRS II Pro during the 2018 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous held in Montana. It proved very accurate, clear and fast. It allowed me to get repeat shots out to 500 yards.

Mounted to the new Savage Competition 15, I hit 12-inch steel at 500 yards about as fast as the trigger could be pulled. Move up closer and it was just as fast.

Changing power was easy and quick, while the clarity was superb and eye relieve generous.

Final Thoughts

If you are building that perfect duty, self-protection or competition rifle, you need a solid optic. Make sure you give the new Bushnell SMRS II series of scopes a very close look.

The SMRS II has an MSRP of $1,349.99, while the SMRS II Pro has an MSRP of $1,449.99. For that price, you get superior optics without breaking the bank. If you are looking for some of the best optics for the money, make certain these are at the top of your list.
