Grey Ghost Gear, a veteran-owned manufacturer of tactical equipment for the individual operator, is introducing a line of personal armor plates, brand new for 2014. These plates are NIJ certified and feature a 1000 Denier Cordura finish. There are three protection levels: Level III, Level III+ and Level IV. Level III is neutrally buoyant, multi shot rated, has an advanced UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) design and weighs 3.0 lbs. Level III+ has an advanced ceramic/composite design, weighs 4.7 lbs., is multi shot rated and provides a Light AP protection. Level IV, meanwhile, has a ceramic/FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plates) design, is also multi shot rated and weighs 8.1 lbs.
There is also a limited edition version which replaces the traditional “Strike Face” wording on the front with another phrase. “The phrase on the front of the plate may seem flippant, but it’s not,” said Casey Ingels, Grey Ghost Gear CEO, according to SoldierSystems.net. “These plates and our intention to put them in the hands of responsible citizens is a natural extension of the Grey Ghost Gear ethos. We are very excited to offer cutting edge ballistic protection, not just to the military and first responders, but the everyman.”
“[This is] cutting edge, new technology and it’s affordable,” Grey Ghost Gear Director of Business Development Lindsey Lea said, according to GunsandTactics.com. “For a few hundred dollars, responsible citizens can be better protected and less encumbered than all but the most specialized of contemporary military personnel. This will allow the average concealed carry type citizen to keep protective gear in a vehicle, at home, at the office, wherever. Maybe in a couple of places.”
MSRP for this product ranges from $200 to $500, according to GunsandTactics.com. It is available for military, law enforcement, and citizens with a concealed carry permit.
