Most who are familiar with the Kimber name know them as the maker of a diverse line of quality 1911 pistols. What a lot of people don’t realize is that Kimber produced long arms (shotguns and rifles) for many years before they ever began turning out those pistols. In fact, while Kimber began manufacturing long arms in 1980, they’ve only turned out 1911s for the past 10 years.
Among the newest of long guns is the Model M84 LPT (Light Police Tactical). Prototypes appeared as early as 2006, but the LPT was officially introduced at the SHOT Show in January 2007. Kimber entered the tactical market with this rifle, adding to and drawing upon their background of game guns.
