In 1999 the world was introduced to the 4.6x30mm cartridge, known for its paring with the H&K MP7. However, it was not available to the U.S. civilian market, until now. With the introduction of its FourSix AR pistol, CMMG brings the small, lightweight round to the U.S.
The CMMG FourSix AR Pistol
Building on CMMG’s BANSHEE, Mk4 platform, the FourSix features a new patent-pending Micro Gas Block. Moreover, keeping the FourSix compact, it comes standard with an 8-inch barrel. In addition, the AR-15 controls reduce the need for a learning curve. With the AR platform modularity, it is additionally customizable to the shooters needs. For example, the upper features a picatinny rail running its entire length, for optics and other accessories.
Due to the small, lightweight design of the 4.6x30mm round, the 40 round magazine still seats in any standard AR-15 sized magwell. As a result, users can pair their existing AR-15 lower receiver with the FourSix upper and 4.6x30mm magazine. Chambering a round is made possible via an ambidextrous oversized charging handle.
A benefit of the 4.6x30mm round is its superior penetration at close distances, while remaining flat shooting at 150 yards. Similarly, the smaller package provides the ability to carry more rounds. In addition, the soft recoil and modified direct impingement operating system allows for more rounds on target. For this reason, the 4.6x30mm is an ideal personal defense round.
