FN just announced the latest addition to its popular FN Edge Series of pistols. The FN 509 CC Edge features a quick-detach compensator, adding some pretty fresh styling along with recoil-control performance into a carry gun package.
FN 509 CC Edge Details
The quick-detach compensator utilizes a self-indexing design. It effectively mitigates recoil for faster shot recover, according to FN. Faster recovery promotes faster shots on target, better accuracy and overall better control of the gun. With the CC Edge, the Edge Series continues bringing upgraded platforms built to perform.
“With the FN Edge Series of products, our team of engineers addresses the challenges facing today’s gun enthusiasts in a unique and no-holds-barred way. It’s a combination of aesthetics and performance that have been fine-tuned to perfection directly from the factory and delivered against the promise of FN innovation,” said Mark Cherpes, President and CEO for FN America, LLC. “The FN 509 CC Edge is a high-performance, premium 9mm carry gun that offers improved sight recovery, shootability and more, all without sacrificing on overall size for concealed carry.”
The compensator increases performance by reducing muzzle rise by around 25 percent, according to FN. It decreases felt recoil, while still maintaining concealed carry traits. The system utilizes V-style ports on either side; the vector gases and flash out of the shooter’s field of view. FN machines the compensator from stainless steel. It comes coated with a graphite-colored PVD finish for durability and hard use. All the while, the system maintains the factory FN 509 recoil spring.
Innovative Compensator System
“The addition of a compensator to a concealed carry pistol is a delicate balance – too small and your compensator can be ineffective. Too big and you aren’t able to conceal as easily along with other possible issues,” noted John Ryan, Director of Commercial Product Management for FN America, LLC, when discussing FN’s methodology in developing this compensator. “Our engineering team took a whole system approach to the design, knowing that this pistol was intended to be a CCW option, and had to perform with as little recoil as possible, but still needed to fit within the styling of the FN Edge Series. The sleek design of the FN compensator compliments the aesthetics of the Edge Series perfectly while meeting performance requirements.”
The 509 CC Edge comes with a 12-round and two 15-round magazines. Each mag features machined aluminum base pads, weighted and sure to fall free from the grip frame during a reload. The 4.2-inch cold hammer-forged barrel sports a recessed target crown and striking gold Titanium Nitride PVD coating. The coating delivers increased lubricity, hardness and wearing, and it flat-out looks bad ass through the slide cuts.
Concealed Carry Features
The pistol also comes optics-ready, utilizing FN’s Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System. It accommodates more than 10 MRDs. A green fiber-optic front sight and low-glare blacked out rear sight co-witness with most optics. Inside, the pistol includes the FN Edge Series fire control group. FN says it increases speed and accuracy, a flat-faced trigger with a 90-degree break and capable of a 5-pound trigger pull.
The 509 CC Edge stands out in its aesthetics as well. It delivers a mix of slide lightening cuts and in-mold stippled frame texturing. The gold-finished barrel highlights the aggressive styling. A reversible magazine release and ambidextrous slide release brings utility for all users. Interchangeable backstraps enables a semi-custom fit.
The FN 509 CC Edge retails for $1,569. For even more info, visit fnamerica.com.
