I first got a taste for MAUSER when a friend took me shooting with a 1917 MAUSER from his milsurp collection. We shot a half-size silhouette from 290 yards with iron sights and almost couldn’t miss. The accuracy and function of this rifle were undeniable. So how does a company with such incredible history and reliability celebrate its anniversary? By releasing the MAUSER 98 125th Anniversary Limited-Edition Series. In other words—they go all out.
The MAUSER 98 125th Anniversary Limited-Edition Series
Built by master gunsmiths at the MAUSER factory, the 98 features the style of classic safari rifles from times past. The cold-hammer-forged barrel beds in a beautiful fish scale checkered grade 8 Walnut stock. Likewise, the bolt handle ball also features fish scale checkering for positive engagement.
The action, bolt handle ball, trigger guard, pistol grip cap, and magazine base are all color case hardened. Likewise, gold damascening and inlays help accentuate the color case hardening throughout. The receiver, milled and drilled from a single massive forged block of specially formulated steel, features tasteful English scroll engraving.
The trigger guard includes the serial number 1 – 25 of the anniversary model (only 25 rifles will be sold throughout the world). Similarly, the top of the barrel features the engraved original MAUSER logo, inlaid in gold.
The versions and caliber options available are the MAUSER 98 Magnum, chambered in .375 H&H/.416 Rigby, or the MAUSER 98 Standard, chambered in .30-06 Springfield/8×57 IS.
“The MAUSER 98 action is regarded as the forefather of all modern bolt-action rifles. Built-in the millions, copied by the thousands, but never matched,” said Jason Evans, CEO, Blaser Group. “We will have the first 125th-anniversary rifle, marked #1 in the series, for sale at the upcoming SCI Convention in Nashville, and it is truly a work of art.”
This limited-edition rifle is about as cool as it gets. However, you will need to be serious and have the cold hard cash to get one for your collection. Each rifle brings a price tag of $32,000.00. So, start saving your pennies now; one of these MAUSER 98s would be the centerpiece of any collection.
The first MAUSER 98 125th Anniversary LE rifle, marked #1, will be available at the upcoming SCI Convention in Nashville and will carry an MSRP of $35,000.00. For more info, please visit MAUSER.com/US.
