By nearly a two-to-one ratio, the number of contractors in Afghanistan outnumbers the amount of U.S. military personnel on the ground, according to the Congressional research Service and the Government Accountability Office. Meanwhile, the work being done by these contractors is done by-and-large off the Pentagon’s radar.
The increase in the contractors is a solid indication that while troops are leaving Afghanistan, a private army will remain in the country for years.
