The 12-man tactical team has made between 800 and 1,000 entries since it was founded in 2000, most notably at the armed robbery of McCann’s Liquors on South Union Street last year, where the two robbers ran back into the building and concealed themselves in an upstairs apartment.
Comprised of volunteers from the ranks of the department, the team trains twice a month year-round.
Each member qualifies four times a year with the weapons used by the team including the M4 patrol rifle, patrol shotgun, .40 caliber service pistol and MP5 machine gun.
