Twenty-one Quincy police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave after letting their gun permits expire, according to an official in the Police Department.

The official, who would only speak on the condition of anonymity, said a random search found that the Quincy officers had not renewed their permits.

A Quincy Police Department spokesman confirmed that officers had been placed on leave, but would not elaborate on what type of license had expired.

“It was an administrative issue that we are currently dealing with,” said Captain John Dougan. “. . . They have been placed on paid administrative leave pending clearing of an administrative issue.”
