Erik Fischer became the 17th member of his family to join the New York Police Department when he graduated from the Police Academy.
Fischer will be wearing his father William Fischer’s badge number: 26062. Fischer’s father, who retired in 2006, pinned the badge on his son’s chest following a special ceremony at the Police Academy.
His father told the Daily News, “I felt goosebumps. That shield laid dormant for all these years because it was bent or not serviceable after I turned it in.”
“It felt surreal,” Erik Fischer said. “Ever since I was a child, I remember coming home and seeing my dad in his uniform.”
Erik Fischer, who was in the Navy for three-and-a-half years before joining the NYPD, said he wanted to be a police office since 9/11.
