BAGHDAD – About 3,500 American soldiers who were part of last summer’s troop “surge” are scheduled to leave Iraq in the coming weeks, the U.S. military said.
Possibly responding to the growing amount of pressure from leaders who insist that the military make soldier deployment out of Iraq a top priority, the Army’s overall plan is to reduce the number of American troops in Iraq from its current level of about 160,000 to about 140,000 by the end of July.
