Three elite airmen were honored at Fort Bragg’s Pope Field for heroism during their time in Afghanistan. The award ceremony was attended by members of Fort Bragg’s Air Force and special operations.

Master Sgt. Delorean M. Sheridan and Staff Sgt. Christopher G. Baradat, combat controllers who served with Green Beret’s from Fort Bragg’s 3rd Special Forces Group, were each awarded the Silver Star medal. A third airman, Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Whiddon, was awarded the Purple Heart for sustaining injuries during a third battle in Afghanistan.

Lt. Gen. Eric Fiel, commander of Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla., presented the medals to the three airmen, all of whom are members of the 21st Special Tactics Squadron.

“You were not just doing your job. You knew the dangers, and you didn’t back down,” Fiel said. “Your strength and tenacity epitomizes what being a warrior and a special tactics airman is all about.”
