Attica Prison Riot Documents May Be Unsealed

The 1971 riot and retaking of Attica state prison, the nation’s bloodiest inmate rebellion, is once again under scrutiny as New York’s attorney general has asked a state judge to unseal documents.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has requested that the court in Wyoming County open hundreds of detailed pages about the five September days when inmates took control of the maximum-security prison in rural western New York until state troopers and guards stormed the facility.
