AUSTIN, Texas – Beginning Monday, the Austin Police Department will merge with the parks and airport departments, adding 92 new officers to the Department.  The merger, estimated at $2 million, is expected to improve the city’s overall quality of policing and will place all of the city’s police operations under Police Chief Art Acevedo with intention to decrease the chance for confusion or misdirection in emergency situations.
