A special agent of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has been charged with possessing stolen firearms and other offenses.
Clifford Dean Posey, 43, of Chesapeake, was named in a 20-count indictment unsealed today that also alleges wire fraud, embezzlement, making false statements and money laundering that occurred in the course of his official duties.
According to the indictment, as part of his duties Posey obtained control of firearms, cigarettes and other items. Starting in 2007 he allegedly falsified documents concerning firearms under his control so he could convert them to his own use.
On one occasion he advertised a firearm for sale that he gained custody of as part of his job.
