Eight Monterey Peninsula law enforcement agencies announced Wednesday the start of a regional partnership.
At the Monterey Peninsula College Public Safety Training Facility in Seaside, they unveiled the Monterey Peninsula Regional Special Response Unit, a special weapons and tactics, crisis negotiation and tactical medical team.
The team will comprise officers from Marina, California State University, Monterey Bay, Seaside, Sand City, Monterey, Pacific Grove and Carmel police departments.
Its goal is to provide trained, well-staffed and equipped tactical teams able to respond during crises.
Also attending the event were state and county Department of Homeland Security officials, the participating departments’ police chiefs and local government leaders.
