The Pinole City Council on Tuesday adopted a 45-day ban on the sale of guns and ammunition from home-based businesses to allow the police chief and city attorney to study the implications of permitting gun businesses in residential areas.

The issue came to the council after a resident applied last month for a permit to operate a gun business from home. The city has no current ordinance addressing whether or not such a business would be allowed.

Police Chief John Hardester and City Attorney Benjamin Reyes had requested the moratorium to buy time to consider the implications of allowing such a permit.
