The U.S. Coast Guard will receive 20 Wasp III drones from the Marine Corps as part of a technology transfer program spearheaded by the Pentagon.

As part of the DoD’s Domestic Preparedness Support Initiative program and the Navy’s Technology Transfer program, excess military systems can be utilized by all agencies operating within the Department of Homeland Security, which includes the Coast Guard.

The Marines will soon begin using the Wasp IV system, nullifying their need for the Wasp III, which costs $150,000 per system.
